INAUGURATION OF FIRE STATION SOUTH, KOHIMA NEW BUILDING AND LUNCHING OF NFES-MS

The Newly constructed Fire Station South, Kohima Building under Fire & Emergency Services was inaugurated along with the Launching of ‘Modernization of Nagaland Fire & Emergency Services-Management System (NFES-MS)’ by Shri. S. Kiusumew Yimchunger Hon’ble Advisor, Fire & Emergency Services, Home Guards, Civil Defence and Relief & Rehabilitation in presence of Shri. W. Chingang Konyak, Hon’ble Advisor Geology & Mining and DUDA and Dr. Tseilhoutuo Rhütso, Hon’ble MLA during a function held on Wednesday the 20th May, 2026. The programme was chaired by Shri Neilasa Sopfii, IG, (F&ES) Department and in his introductory speech, he highlighted that the construction of the Fire Station South Kohima was executed under the Police Engineering Project with a total project cost of Rs.3.53 crores. He emphasised that, the station was one of the oldest fire stations in Nagaland and the present new building is expected to become one of the best fire stations in the Northeast. The new Fire Station is a four-storeyed building and shall house 4-Bay garages for fire fighting vehicles in the ground floor with all other necessary logistic facilities on the above three floors. He also mentioned that the new project viz. ‘Modernization of Nagaland Fire & Emergency Services-Management System (NFES-MS)’ is a pilot project for the initial three districts of Kohima, Mokokchung and Dimapur. The main objective of the project is Digital transformation of Fire and Emergency Services for improved efficiency, accessibility, accuracy, transparency and to develop a centralized management system for Fire & Emergency Services, Nagaland. A Citizen Web Portal (https://nfes.nagaland.gov.in/) has been developed to provide online services to the citizens which can be accessed for Online Recruitment Processing, Online Payments, Fire NOC, Feedback & Grievances, Geo Location of Fire Stations and other department information.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri. S. Kiusumew Yimchunger said, he is pleased to announce that the Department of Fire & Emergency Services from a humble beginning has now grown to a modern and capable Department. The Advisor stated that the Department is coming up with modern firefighting equipment and is targeting to set up new Fire Stations across the State. With the Launching of Modernization of Nagaland Fire & Emergency Services-Management System (NFES-MS), the Advisor is of the view that the department will now be equipped with data's and real time scenarios in firefighting which can help in minimizing the loss of lives and properties to a large extent.

Also speaking on the occasion, Shri. W. Chingang Konyak, Hon’ble Advisor, urged the department to established Fire Station in ADC & EAC circle and Village level.

Dr. Tseilhoutuo Rhütso, Hon’ble MLA, suggested the Department to use small water tender, two wheeler fire fighting with fire extinguishing media, He added to have rain water harvest reservoirs in different localities in and around Kohima and also to suggested that a dam be construct along the stream of Sanuorü river /Stream under North Kohima, for fire fighting purpose.
